How to install a retractable screen door?

Installing a Casper retractable screen door can be divided into main two parts: 1) assembling the housing and smaller parts that must be attached to it and 2) installing the housing on the other door frame along with the top and bottom tracks.

Part I: Preparing to mount the housing

Before you mount the housing to the door jamb, you need to make sure that the housing is complete with the pull bar boots, handles, and end cap attached.

How to install the handle and boot?

  1. Insert one boot on one end of the pull bar.
  2. Slide the two handles along the channel found on each side of the pull bar, facing each other.
  3. Insert the remaining boot into the other end of the pull bar.

How to install the end cap?

  1. Place the flat side of the housing on a flat surface with the magnet facing you.
  2. On your right-hand side, insert the bearing, making sure that the tab on the bearing fits neatly into the grooves
  3. Fit in the end cap to the corresponding holes on the housing.
  4. On your left-hand side or the other end of the housing, the spring is attached. If the spring is unmounted, turn the spring toward you 13x to 14x.
  5. Insert the bearing and end cap into the corresponding grooves and holes.

How to install the top track adapter?

For doors that are 94 inches or taller, the kit includes a top track adapter that you need to install before starting to mount the housing into the door jamb.

  1. Line up the housing to determine where exactly the top track adapter will mount.
  2. Mount the top track to the top door frame
  3. Attach the top track by installing the self-tapping screws through the pre-drilled holes

How to install a retractable screen door for single doors and sliding doors?

  1. Determine which side the housing with a mesh screen will be installed on. After that, place the housing into the door jamb
  2. Slide the top track into the housing and install a screw using a cordless drill into the top track 1 inch from the housing.
  3. Slide the bottom track onto the endcap of the housing. If you ordered the optional threshold transition kit, install them on either side of the bottom track.
  4. Make sure that the top and bottom tracks are aligned straight across the door frame.
  5. Slide the side profile into the top track and the bottom track.
  6. Install the remaining screws by following the diagram included in the kit.

Retractable screen doors for French doors or double doors follow the same installation process.

How to install retractable screen doors for double doors or French doors?

  1. Place one of the two housings on either the left or right side of the door jamb.
  2. Slide the top track into the first housing. Using a cordless drill, install a screw into the top track 1 inch from the housing.
  3. Insert the bottom track onto the endcap of the first housing. Install the threshold transition kit on either side of the bottom track if you have one.
  4. Check if the top and bottom tracks are aligned with the door frame.
  5. Install the second housing the same way you place the first housing.
  1. Follow the screw pattern shown in the kit to install the remaining screws.
  2. If you order a slide lock, secure it in the middle of the door opening. You can place it on either pull bar depending on your preference.
